Comms with teeth

Recent findings from Ofcom, the UK’s communications services regulator, reveal the latest figures for complaints of major providers of landline, mobile, broadband and pay-TV services. And while some fell slightly, most stayed around the same.

For broadband, the worst offender was NOW Broadband and Sky the least. EE was the most complained about landline and Utility Warehouse the least complained about. Top of the mobile providers were EE, Tesco Mobile and Vodafone, while 02 came bottom. And Sky and TalkTalk received the fewest complaints for pay-TV whereas EE and Virgin Media received the most.

Communications services have always been important in our lives. Now more than ever. From grandchildren to grandparents and everyone in between, we all rely on our electronic devices to connect with friends, family and colleagues. They are also integral in our news-hungry and social media worlds.

Which is why large organisations providing these services should be monitored and the information gathered on them shared. It makes them accountable and gives us as consumers informed choices. And if poor performance continues or rules are breached, Ofcom calls them out and fines them as was the case with GB News.

I’m all for transparency, particularly in comms, and it’s good to see we have robust regulators with sharp teeth they’re not afraid to use!

Visit Ofcom for more information on their facts, figures, findings and fines.
